anyone live by a big cliff
got a 400ex that has a carb (duh) that just doesnt want to work with my engine.
put in a big jet...runs good, but wont idle.
put a smaller jet...runs so so, idle is so so
put a factory jet and moved the needle up one click...wont start.
took the choke off, starts, idles, and runs good, but after it warms up it wont run.
SO I AM WILLING TO PAY $3.35 A GALLON OF GAS TO DRIVE WHERE EVER I HAVE TO GO TO TOSS THIS CRAP OFF A CLIFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The problem is that the carb is not "balanced"! Different parts of the carb are effective at different positions of the throtle. There is a lot more to a carb than just the main and the needle....

Carb jetting is art more than science! If you want to get out on the trail, have it done by an experienced professional. If you want to spend you time learning carb jetting (in the age of fuel injection!), then you are going to have to get down to the nitty gritty.
And....yes I do have cliffs! Lots of the early dirt bike hillclimbers, were guys who grew up riding Reche Canyon back behind my house!
