buying an 1988 trx 250r?

Default buying an 1988 trx 250r?

im going to go look at a stock 250r tomarrow, is there anything to bad to look for? i've had some two strokes, bannsee, tri-z. im just looking for a checklist to go over, when looking this bike over. hes asking $2500, suppost to be mint!!

pretty problem free bike. nothing out of the norm. btw i think you will like it more than any other 2-stroke you owned. i know it is my fav 2-stroke quad ever

Default buying an 1988 trx 250r?

run it through all the gears
look around the foot pegs for cracks or welds in the frame
look to make sure the frame does not appear to be bent or welded in other areas
look at the front end and how the wheels sit to see if it has a bent knuckle or something like that
make sure its an 88, if it is an 88 or 89 the serial number is located under the front plastic on a cross member of the frame. It can be rather hard to see. The 86 and 87 have it on the frame left side near the back. The 88 and 89 also have the headlight built into the front plastic.
when riding it you can pay attention to see if the axle is bent
look at the rear carrier and see if anything is loose because of bad bearings and do the same with the front wheels, make sure the ball joints are good
If you really want to be through, have him drain the case oil and let you see what is in it, he might not do that though.
look at the fins on the radiator and make sure they are in good shape
other than that do the normal checks you would usually do

THANKS FOR EVRERONES HELP, BOUGHT MY TRX TODAY, NEEDS NEW REAR FENDERS, HE CUT OFF THE REAR CORNERS, BECOUSE ONE SIDE HAD A CRACK?????? EVERTHINGS REAL TIGHT, 3/4 GEAR WHEELIES. I GOT IT HOME, WAS OILING THE CHAIN, NOTICED THE REAR HUBS ARE LOOSE???? THE BOLTS HAVE PINS IN THEM BUT THEY ARE A LITTLE LOOSE, HOPEFULY IT HASN'T BEEN RIDDEN TO LONG LIKE THAT?? I'LL POST SOME PIC'S, AS SOON AS I FIND THE CAMERA, DAMM KIDS!!!

you will love it, I got an 88 and will never let go of it. My favorite quad of all time.
