Hello all,
I recently read about a guy fitting a crf450r muffler on his 85 350x 3 wheeler. Almost bolted right on. Well, that got me thinking......what other exhausts, mufflers or other parts will fit or can be modded to fit on our ranchers?

My first thought was to look around at other Honda machines that the muffler exits on the left side like ours and see if it can be made to fit. All this because aftermarket stuff is crazy expensive and some new sport mufflers breath really well and are semi quiet and our OEM muffler can not be opened up very easily. I was specifically thinking of a muffler with a bolt in end cap that can be easily removed but I'm open to any good ideas.

Has anyone opened up a factory exhaust to see if it can be modified and re welded back together?

Brakes.....Even my friends ancient old 1985 atc 350x has disks front and rear. What's up with drums in 2006 on a $5K machine?

Anyone know of other Honda rotors and caliper that will bolt in or go on with out too much work?

And finally, what about power adders? Any good tricks or tips for cheap power? Other than air filter, jets, and exhaust? Any carb tricks or whatever?

I was even thinking of using a long drill bit and doing some 1/4" holes deep in the hole on the end of the muffler. The crf guys say to pull the restrictive core out of their mufflers and do some holes to help it breathe, well what about ours. Even though it can not be removed to do this the end result would be the same....wouldn't it?

Anyone ever plasma cut one open and see where it can be made to breathe easier?

 

Has nobody looked in to what other Honda parts fit our machines? I have no idea about atvs but I know for years many of their vehicle parts were interchangeable. I was hoping that atvs were also built from many of the same parts bins!
