has anyone had problems with their recon in deep watercrossings? also what has been the tallest tire that will fit the rear of these bikes?

My riding buddy has had trouble with his Recon when he gets into water up over the footpegs. Originally, we thought it was the water shorting out the spark plug, but after reading several post about this, I think his problem lies in the carb. The carb vent line is supposed to have a one way valve on them to prevent water from getting into the carb. From what I understand, these valves rarely work correctly and will let water into the carb. The easy way to fix this is to plug the vent line when riding in water and unplug it when you are riding normal. I think this is my buddy's problem because after we drag the machine out of the water and try it for a while, it eventually will fire and run fine after the water works out of the carb. I am not sure if I will tell him how to fix it. It is more fun to wait until he dies in the middle of the water hole and then the rest of us ride past him and drench him

The only problems I have had with my honda recon is getting high centered, the second it getting the spark plug wet, and the 3rd is due to the poor seal of the airbox lid. The highcentering problem can be fixed by going up in tire size, but I wouldn't go any taller than 24(stock gearing and power can't handle much more), the airbox problem can be solved by putting another gasket (I cut a piece of thin foam rubber to fit),and not flying into water at high speeds. And, the spark-plug problem is an easy fix. Just cover the top of the plug in elexcrical connection grease, and now more problems with that

The only problem i have had with my recon is the snorkel popping off once other than that and getting stuck up to the silencer in mud

How does your recon go with the K&N power kit?

I have had the same problem with my recon to. If I go in water past the foot pegs it shuts down and is very difficult to start again.

whats going on????

It did increase power...some, but I wouldn't recomend it. Mine allowed dust to get into my engine(dust on intake manifold), and ate my rings, causing a need for a new top-end. My suggestion... Save for a new pipe, or get a UNI instead, still high flow, but much better filtering.
