Default K&N or UNI airfilter

from what ive heard uni gives your engine a good flow and dosent let any dust or anything get into your engine and k&n dosent have enough protection

I installed a K&N and it came with a 1/4" gaskets and some sealer, but it doesn't fit in there with the gasket. So I left it off. Is that a problem?

UNI,
K&N lets in too much fine dust particles.

Two of my friends and I race our 450R's and we run UNI filters with no issues. They are easy to clean and have worked well in dusty or muddy track conditions.

I ran K&N's on everything for a short while. I took them off, because at every filter change, I would wipe the intake out with a white cloth and it always came out with a film of dust on it!!! They do pass the very fine stuff, and if you hold the filter up to the light you can see right through it...so I don't see why that would surprise anybody. If you are a racer and need the unmost in performance, the tradeoff for more frequent rebuilds might be worth it. For the recreational rider looking to make their engine last, it doesn't make sense.

The trouble with the UNI for the Ranchers is that they don't give you a cage to hold the filter open (like they do on all the other models). You have to use that very restrictive stock wire canister, and that is the limiting factor for how much air you can get! The canister is there to prevent a fire if you happen to backfire into the carb. I have never heard of this being a problem with these machines, but apearently UNI feels it is an issue.....
