Hi everyone, I see another topic about a honda not shifting but I don't want to hijack his thread, so I started a new one. Here is my problem, 2000 450 es just decided one day not to down shift. I can shift it with the manual lever, and every once and a while (when I was trying to diagnose) would complete a shift. When I was driving it and the downshift quit, I could hear it trying to downshift and the rpms would drop alittle, but just would not go to the lower gear. Any suggestions?

 

Do you mean it will shift up though? My 450es was stuck in 2nd (No up or Down) and I pulled off the seat and cleaned and checked every fuse and connection and it worked fine again.

 

Did you first adjust the clutch ..

 

I have adjusted the clutch already, it was one of the first things i tried. it upshifts with no problems but will not downshift. i checked for power to the angle sensor, and removed the angle sensor and checked to verify that the resistance changed smoothly when the angle sensor was turned. it is ok. I will admit that I did not disassemble the switches on the handle bars. Are the switches easy to disassemble and clean?

 

I had a problem with my machine shifting intermittingly until finally it would not shift at all from 4th to a lower gear. The manual shift would not work either.

I have had my machine for 4 years and had not done anything to it except drive it.

If you have not changed oil lately I would do that. The engine and transmisson all use the same oil on mine.

Hope you figure it out.

 

there has to be a short in the angle sensor mine had the same problem
