Default 2005 Rancher 4x4 ES - 4x4 light blinking

I have not had a single issue with my Rancher - thought when I started it today - the 4x4 light was blinking and it will not engage 4x4 - it blinks 5 times...
Anyone know what this means??

Thanks!
Lloyd

It is a 2005 Rancher TRX 400 AT 4x4 - with the electric shift option. Battery was near dead, so I had to pull start it and the 4x4 light kept blinking 5 times. I just started it today as battery is now charged and the 4x4 system works fine now - no blinking!? what was it? I'm hoping there's not a potential problem starting and that it just had something to do with the battery.
