Neutral Safety Switch
#1
About a year ago on my 01 Fourtrax 350FM, the neutral safety switch died. Hence, bike no start. I bought the replacement part but it required opening the back of the motor or something crazy ... long story short, we by passed all that jazz, and locked the dial on the part so now the bike starts in any gear. I wraped/sealed all up fed it up under behind the seat under the plastic shield with the battery. TO date, not one problem, starts every time and in any gear (which I might add has come in handy) I was curious, have any of you ever encounterd a problem with the neutral safety switch? I hav to say, I was pretty ticked that when this part breaks...your stranded. The bike would NOT start at all...with the re-coil, holding a break lever, jumping it, tow start...nothing. It was completely dead. Not cool.

I was going to do the same...until I found out the cost ... Mind you we didnt know what we were doing either, the "by pass" allowing it to start in any gear was a by product of us not knowing how to do the proper install. But, all said and done, its been working great for over a year now. I just cant believe they engineered the bike that way...talk about stranding your customers. Hope they've corrected this flaw on newer models or I'll be buying another brand when the time comes...
Just wanted to add tho, in the 7 years since new owning this machine, this was the ONLY problem Ive ever had...other than that, rock solid bike.
