I have Maxxis Razr2's on my 450r, they work really well, hook up very nicely, and they're 6ply also, so they don't wear fast at all.

ITP Holeshot XC, on ITP Baja rims. We ride desert, and I have tried a number of different tires over the years, but I keep coming back to the XC (or XCT if I want a little more ground clearance). Front: 22x7-10 (4-ply); Rear: 20x11-9 (6-ply).

I don't have a 400EX, but unless you routinely run in the mud/ruts I would stick with the 20" rear and 21" fronts. Personally, I have been having real good luck with the plane jane Razrs. They hook up well in the goo and on hardpack. I don't think they slide quite as predictably as the true mx tires like Holeshot MXR's, but they are tough as nails. Anything along the Holeshot/Razr lines(plenty of knockoffs out there now) should work fine. I would steer clear of the mx tires unless you are racing though. They wear fast and are usually 2 or 4 ply max. That leaves them to puncture prone in my book.

It's Yamaha that usually runs 21" fronts, where Honda runs 22". Smaller tires in front will quicken the steering, but sometimes make it so quick it gets squirley. Stick with 22" on your EX.

Fine, stick with the stock 22" size fronts if you want. The only time I would swap out from stock tire size is smaller for MX, taller for riding in mud, deep ruts, or snow. Your quad is designed to have a good overall handling/ground clearance package with the stock size anyway. Oh, and if going from a 22" to a 21" front tire makes your quad to "squirrely" then throw a steering stabilizer on it. Actually, I am a firm believer in them anyways and would prefer not to run a sporty without a stab, regardless of tire size. I only run a stick stabilizer on my quad. I bet I have sold at least 6 of these this year alone, just letting someone take a quick spin on my quad around a rough track or trail. Then again, if you race WNYOA you really don't need one, lol.

I don't mean "squirley" in the sense that you get headshake or anything like that, I mean that it will tend to oversteer. I put the Standard Holeshot's (21" front/20" rear) on my 300EX once (and yes it did have a steering stabilizer), and it would want to loop out in a tight turn. Take it from someone who's been there!

I was looking at the iRazr's or the Razr/Razr II's Do you think these will make good trail riding tires?
