On the stock Honda 300ex rear wheel, the owners manual boldly states to put the dome side of the lug nut inwards on the rim, but on aftermarket wheels there isn't a groove for the dome.Would it be alright to just turn the lug nut around so it will work on the new wheel, even though the manual says to always put the dome side in?

Do not put the lug nuts on with the dome facing out! Lug nuts are designed to only go on one way. If you put them on the wrong way you will have a hard time getting them on, they will probably strip the studs and they will eventually back themselves off. Call the wheel manufacturer and see if they make lug nuts or if the stock ones are okay.

Just my thought, I bought new wheels and tires for winter. The local dealer said there was no problem turning the stock lugs around. Use a deep socket and torque them to 47ftlb. Only do this with aftermarket rims that Don't come with tapered holes.

I've had mine on backwards for 2 years with no problems,as long as they are aftermarket rims that don't have tapered holes in them.

i put some soft alloy washers under the nuts to try and reduce agrivation the nuts may cause on the rim

I turn the lugs around when I put my paddles on my bike. Been doing this for many years and haven't had a problem.
