Default Honda Mechanic need help...

Buddy of mine with a Rancher 420 wants to move his rad. up to the front rake but has concerns about the resevoir, does he also need to relocate the resevoir or will it work fine in it's present location?

I've never moved a radiator on a wheeler, but if you look at cars the reservoir is always higher then the radiator. this allows for pressure to bleed into the degas bottle when hot. as the engine cools, the coolant depressurizes and the fluid flows back into the radiator. If you move the radiator higher, but leave the res low(in my thinking) the fluid will flow out of the radiator and fill the bottle?? I've never done it, so it's just a guess.....

Just curious as to why you would want to move it.

he is metal, and mud is the magnet! If you get my meaning! LOL!

He tends to get the rad screen plugged up with mud then overheats...

I'm not sure if the reserve tank must be moved up .. Other Honda models (street bikes) have the reserve/overflow tank below level with the rad , GoldWings , CBR's etc. have the tank MUCH lower than the rad , I believe the only reason Honda has the reserve tank high is to keep it away from stones/sticks etc ..

im thinking about making a platform to put on the front rack and then laying the radiator down so the fan is on top and using the resevoir to add the fluides. im not sure if that will work or not yet. any thoughts?
