Default 1985 250es stuck in reverse

I just got a old 3 wheeler and I was getting used to it and now it won't shift out of reverse. I have tried to raise the shifter, lower the shifter. Wiggle, beat, slam, cuss. Just about every combo of the above. I adjusted the play and the it made no difference.

Any ideas?

Thanks for helping a newbee

I would check this gearshift arm .. Honda had a lot of them break and came out with an up-dated (thicker) arm ..

Hopefully not to sound too stupid, but are there online manuals to show how to get to the arm. Somewhere, sombody welded the shift (foot pad) lever to the shaft. I'm guessing I will have to cut the weld and get the outside lever off to start.

thanks for the diagram, it helps to visualize what is in there.

looks pretty stright forward, I will have to cut the shift pedal off the shaft (PO welded it together)

there is a shift shaft on e-bay, I might be better off getting a non modified one. Plust at the part houses, they are not that expensive presuming they have it.

Thanks for the info, I'll let you know what I find.

UPDATE:

Took the left side cover off. Found pieces of the gear shift arm. There was enough of it left (though spread apart) to make a new one. I put it all back together.....

And it still won't come out of reverse...

The lever does seem to be doing something, it makes the bike go into neutral. But no matter if I pull up or push down does it do anything else.

I have tried to shift while it is under power, and while it is coasting, even sitting still.

Ideas?

PS noticed when I was reviewing the manual pages you sent, I should have taken the right cover off and alinged the clutch arm. Do you suppose that might be it?

I sent the clutch section .. Also the post that centers the spring used to work loose or even break off.. Be careful not to loose the little roller .. We remove the shifter shaft on any in for repair and VERY seldom does the clutch cover have to be removed , it should line up and slide right back in..
