I've got a 98 300ex with alot of aftermarket stuff on it. Do you guys think I would be able to trade it to a 250r, quadzilla, banshee, 400ex or something of that nature...without it costing me an arm and a leg? If so which would you suggest for hillclimbing and woods riding? Thanks!

how is a piddly high compression piston, nerfs, a pipe and a jet kit a lot of after market mods?

put 1,200 in it..and you will have a 400ex killer! And have an ATV that only...3 people on the forum have!

the way i see it

a 98 300ex is worth about..oh..2800(i paid 3500 for my 00, and in the local paper 97s-00s go for 2,500 to 4,000 depending on condition)

ok you trade it in. Get a used 400ex. It has 26hp, and down 70. You have at about 4000 for a 99.(if you trade it in at a dealer ship you'll be lucky to get 2k for it)

250R, ok awesome machine, i won't compare, because nothign compares to a 250R.. But think about age here, 98..or 86-88. Lots of hours on that motor, frame, bushings, bearings, and you are going to have about 3,500 in a base machine, unless you are lucky less.

Quadzilla? darn, they break a lot! god you will have a ton out in up keep.

Banshee, i'm not familar with banshee prices, but remember, something breaks, there is 2 of everything. Suspension on a banshee blows. You will be shifting a ton in the woods too.

This is just what i thought about when looking for what to do to start XC racing. Well, you can read my desicion in my signature. And i like having a machine that only a few have.

94DGBlaster> I have alot of other mods on my EX, just too many little things to list. All of my friends road warriors, 300ex's, and blasters. I could really smoke them, now they're all buying Raptors, 400ex's, and Banshee's...now guess who's getting smoked, and I'm tired of it!
How much money do you have invested in your motor alone, not counting shocks, a-arms etc? And just exactly how well does it run?
I was thinking that if I invested money into my already 3 year old EX that it'd just be putting money in something that you could never get that much back out of...cause heavily moded quads don't sell very good!

94DGblaster has a very good point. You havnt even began to tap the potential of that 300ex. Go wiht piston, port, valve job/3angle, web cam, carb...bla bla bla bla and you could have a nice and fast ride. Instead of all that i would actully go for that 330ex big bore kit, then buy the cam and carb. It will eat stock 400ex's for breakfast and dinner and that is a guarantee.
If you have any ?'s about anything just ask CStark (owns a 330ex) i'm sure he wouldnt mind on giving you some tips on how to tap the potential of that bad boy.

300 piston kit and sleeve
200 cam and valve springs
85 CDI mods
250 Port and Flow mods
130 Labor for resleeving
120 used 400ex carb

that totals $1085.

The complete front end mod will run you 300 for arms and shocks, 140 for the kit(less if you make it)

the rear axle, is 350.

i will have a full report, with drag times, MPH, and everything as soon as spring rolls around

get your money back out of? never, but then, when do you get your money back out of an ATV? i plan on keeping this 330 and giving it to my kids to ride if we can still ride them!

Go ahead get something better! It is his money!I personally love my 300ex and always have.I just hated the stock tires. So i got some razr's on the rear and I LOVE it.I beat the only 400ex's I ever raced through the woods on it.It handles woods great and is an excellent jumper.I can't wait till I get some works shocks and a 330 kit and really blow 400ex's away.
