Default is my motor running hot

pulled the dipstick out after a ride and had to use a towel because it was so hot and put the dipstick in the towel and the towel started smoking

What atv did that? If its getting that hot you are going to melt your bearings and seals. You either are working it too hard or you got a blockage in the oil passage that allows it to cool. I would drain and check to see if any particles in the oil or the filter.

What oil weight and what brand you running? Sometimes running a lighter oil that is more pumpable will improve cooling. On the other hand, light oils aren't going to stand up to the heat as well, unless it is a synthetic.

My most recent Honda purchase, the Rancher 420, specs 0W30 as a year round oil....go figure!

I have a 1999 300EX. I only rode it for a half an hour and it seems to always be this hot. I use 10W40 synthetic motorcycle amsoil.

Check the oild 1st because if there is metal in it you will be looking for new engine soon. For the dip stick to have that much heat in it you may have already screwed something up.

the oil looks good so is my oil pump bad or what
