For some reason, I thought with the electronic ignition that I wouldn't have idle problems. Where I ride the elevation ranges from 2000 to 5000 feet. The Rancher is an 07 and bought at a place near sea level. At 2000 feet it idles soso, but at 4000 and above it won't idle at all... just dies. Seems to run fine otherwise, just wont idle. I do not have a full manual (next purchase) but in the meantime does anyone know how to increase the idle on this machine.. or is it more complicated than that?

i dont think you can adjust the idle...........do you have any other mods

No mods.. pure stock right now.

 

i cant remeber but i think the higher you go the richer it gets.........i know the 420s run a little rich from the factory

all i can say is you might want to get a power commander

 

Is a power commander easy to install. I am ok mechanical but if it involves tearing into it deep then not so good. What does the power commander do?

 

Is this a new bike? Did the problem start from the get go or just recently? My 07 runs fine from sea level to over 8000 feet with just a mild loss of power at high elevation. (to be expected I'm also huffing and puffing at 8000 feet)
