Recon or Blaster?
#1
I was just wondering which atv is a better all-around vehicle. I know the blaster is more sporty, and that the recon is more of a utility vehicle, but I want to know which would do better on a trail; a blaster or a recon.

Greetings,
Hard to say -- depends on the trail, your riding style, and your definition of "better." Like you said, Blaster is more sporty and Recon is more utility. If you're looking to buy one of these, I might suggest something in between -- the new Honda 250EX. Its basically a Recon with a sport package. Its been much abused in these forums because it wasn't the 650 they wanted, but it looks like a good fit in its niche.

well, hmmm good question i wanna start of with both brands have excellent reliability, the recon is a good all around atv but not the kinda thing u want around where i live in eastern ky the recon has sumpthin like 4.9 inches of travel out back and i think 5.1 up front with the blaster's 7.1 all the way around u could proably go more places and despite the small 200cc powerplant it does have 6 gears wich means MORE SPEAD!!!! but the recon only has 5 gears but also has a 250,but u also heard of the 250ex with auto clutch and 20% power increase, and if u think huh its kinda rough round hear think bout the yamaha 250 timberwolf 4x4,i had 1 for 6 years and no complaints all i did was change oil and put gas in it nothing broke, but i did find it bogged down and shut off on the biggest hill climb i ever tryed, and well she rolled backwards on me,but i was greatly underpowerd after everything ive road and saw i wouldnt suggest a 250 u will find that u want more power when u dont have it,for sport i think 300ex is the best bet for smaller bore sport quads, and utillity maybe a 2wd or 4wd rancher,or how bout that wolverine by yamaha, hope this helps
2001 rancher 4x4 es

I have a recon, my best friend has a blaster. I've never had to touch my mechanicaly wise, he's had ton's of problems. If you want good quality, go with the recon, if you want 2-stroke punch and fast top speed, go for the blaster. either way, you're probably going to be happy, i know we both are.

i have never rode a recon, but i owned an older version of it. the 87 trx250
For flat out trail rides, mudding, hills, and light work, you can't go wrong with a recon
for, sporty, aggersive rec riding. Blasters don't like mud that much. you can't go wrong with a blaster.
If you want to ride hard, and do some MX stuff, get a blaster
but if you want to lightly ride trails and stuff, get a recon.
My blaster, gave me no trouble, execpt it blew up 3 times(but its a long story, and has nothing to do with blaster design..it was rebuilt wrong, and the head bolts were stripped i didn't know it..head came loose..sucked air..over heated and blew up!)
