1997 foreman
#1
I have found a 97 foreman that i am told will not start because it will not come out of reverse. i am not real familiar with this model but think it is a standard 5 speed plus reverse. the money sounds good but not sure how much it would take to fix this issue.. then what else i might find wrong later.. he is asking 800 or offer..
how hard would it be to get out of reverse to fire it up.. then would that be transmission issue i assume..or is the possibly an electrical issue.. says batter is dead.. not sure if the is some sort of switch that is activated when you go to reverse.. all my honda riding was on the fourtrax 300 know you had to hold button to go to reverse..
i am not a mechanic but have basic skills and can read.. plus have access to people who are pretty handy with this kind of stuff

What does it do when you lift the gearshift to try to get it in neutral..? .. If the shifter is tight on the shaft and the shifter/shaft isn't flopping I would take the clutch cover off to check the gearshift plate...

ok.. it sounds like the shift lever moves freely as if not attached or engaging anything.. is there some kind of linkage involved..
i looked for a manual through honda's web site but had nothing listed for this year or model..
