Here are the tests for code #12 .. I would clean and grease all the couplers on the bike especially the ESP couplers ..

I also included the component location and coupler location for ESP ..

The ECM for the auto.trans is bad .I took the motor apart and on of the magnets is broken .I found one at Honda of Troy for 135.00
I have one more question, is there any way to bypass the switch for the reverse?
My quad will barely move in reverse .It detinates real bad in rev.
Thank you for the help , Mike

The ECM is staying in fail safe mode since it is seeing the code 12. It is tripping the limiter early. Once the issue with the shift motor is resolved, clear all codes from the ECM and initialize the system. On the 400AT this includes a proceedure for removing the rear wheels while jacked up, yada yada... to reset the ecm.
Hondamechanic can most likely post this proceedure from his honda files also.
Once all is reset, the unit should operate normally.

Yes if the magnets are broke on the shift control motor then it will have to be replaced before the bike will stop going into failsafe mode .. Here is how you initialize the TRX400FA/FGA

Well I just received the ecm. When I first installed it it would not function(blown fuse).installed the fuse and I could hear the motor operate.I followed the code that the Honda Mechanic posted. All was good until it came to the part about shifting the transmission 4 clicks up to get it into 5th gear .It would only go to 3rd gear. Now it blinks code 6 blinks. Please help if you can. Thanks MIKE
