400ex rear hub+rotor
Hey guys i just bought a 2003 400ex and I am trying to fix it up. I am trying to remove the old hub + rotor but I am not sure whats the best route to do it. If i remove (in the link below) #10 and #9 is that it? Schematic rear axle

# 11 and 4 too, its a small snap ring, you will have to back off both locking nuts (9 / 10 ) and remove the clip with some snap ring pliers and a flat head screw driver (to help pop it off) you could probably use 2 screwdrivers 2 if you dont have the pliers.. Than 4/9/10 come off in one piece (9 and 10 are threaded onto 4)
GOOD piece of advice..
Since you are going that far.. I suggest removing and inspecting everything in that area..
Take the caliper off, the caliper mount (requires removal of a big ole snap ring)
Take the axle and its carrier out
Check all the seals / and o rings
check your bearings in your carrier (it slides out of the swingarm from the side you adjust chain tension on, its in side of there
Clean parts, GREASE the carrier / bearings
Put back togather with care
you will only need to reference the swing arm and axle schematics..
A dead blow rubber mallet is your friend, as is a smaller metal hammer and a small rod to tap with
WD 40 to help loosen and clean things, but dont spray it in where the bearings are
You can spray it where the carrier goes inside the swingarm, but not in the carrier its self, it will destroy the grease
I just did this whole job, and replaced o rings seals and bearings on my 300, takes a few hours if you have all the tools
good luck!

Be carefull, straighten out the cotter pin on the hub castle but.. tap it out..
if you break it, you HAVE to replace it with another cotter pin, or a real strong piece of metal that will fit in its place,
It took me a while with a bottle of freeze off and an impact hammer to get that 1 1/16 " bastard off, but once its off,
the hub slides right off

ok i have spindle and #4, 9, 10, 3 5, dangling freely on the axle. Does the axle come off with them 2 round bolts that requires a 6 allen wrench to take off? I stripped both (who designs a round bolt without allowing a socket to go on?) so I was wondoring if there was another way or if thats only way to get off the free dnalging spindle and rotor?

yeah, you arent taking anything all the way off without taking that hub off
Yeah, you have to loosen the allen bolts, thats what youd loosen to turn the carrier and tighten/loosen the chain, and to slide the carrier out
but to take the axle off, you just need to take that one wheel hub off, get a rubber mallet, start tapping, and it should slide out to the left
