Big Red1995 trx 300 with a trx350D lump. HELP
Hi all. I am brand new to here so hello guys and girls. I have a 95 TRX 300, but the engine died when the timing chain broke!! I therefore have purchased a TRX 350 engine around a 1989 so I have been told. Have been told its the 'D' version as it has the twin exhaust ports. I know the exhaust is different and that the 350 has an oil cooler, but apart from that they look the same. Is there anything I should know as I am about to start to try and put the 350 in the frame this weekend? Also, where could I obtain an exhaust for it from please as my 300 is only a single pipe? Have looked on E-bay, but there are a few different ones. Many thanks in anticipation folks. Mark

You are into alot more than a "bolt on" swap here. Engine mounts are different, knuckle joint shaft is way off, and you would have to build a new exhaust and intake tract.
And the most important factor of all is whether the engine isnt too tall to fit in the frame. Thats why the 350 used a tank under the seaty and used an electric fuel pump. It's a very tall engine compared to the 300 series.
The only engines that are "bolt in" swaps into the 300 frame is the 250SX and 250ES BigRed three wheeler engines.
You may want to reconsider the 350 engine anyway as they were not very reliable.

Big Red1995 trx 300 with a trx350D lump. HELP
Hi Riverhawk. That would not be a problem. I purchased it from a guy who was breaking the quad on ebay. It has good compression, but as you can imagine I have not had it running. Steve, the guy who sold it to me assured me its ok. As I said it has the oil cooler too. Keep me posted mate. Thanks, at least someone else may get use out of it.

Hello sir. As I said earlier, I purchased it in good faith and of course with it not fitting, I have been unable to try it. Compression is good. It has starter and oil cooler. I paid £275, then purchased oil cooler from him a week later when I worked out what the holes were for. I paid £45 for that. £250 for engine and £20 for cooler if you wish, although I guess you still have your cooler. I can only let you know what I was told when I bought it. As you know, it don't flippin fit my little toy!! Hope this is ok for you. Let me know. I am in Lincolnshire (Spalding), so if you are close we could sort something in terms of getting it to ya if you wished.
