I am in the market for a goof off bike. I ain't really worried about speed or anything I just want something that is going to be fun to ride and above all cheap. I am 5'11" and 180lbs. I am just going to do alot of horsing around at a local off-road spot. What do you all think?

They are great machines! Of course I am biased but for the money they are hard to beat. You have all the things that you need ie. electric start, reverse, lightweight, honda reliability, low maint.. Prices range anywhere from $3000 to $3800.HTH

I have really enjoyed mine. I went to the 400ex cause I wanted more power. But the Recon can do almost anything the other bikes can, just not as fast. I think the Recon is becoming more and more popular with atv riders. I don't think you can go wrong with it. I am about your size, 5'10" 190lbs. Good luck.

It would be hard to go wrong on a Recon. I have owned a Recon, Kawasaki 220, and a Suzuki LT160 and the Recon is by far the better of those choices. The Honda suspension is far superior, and I have not had any mechanical problems with it. My use has been on a ranch chasing cattle, using it to shuttle machinery around, an occasional 25 mile jaunt to town, spot spraying for weeds, and just plain goofing around. Would have to say that I just plain did not like the Kawasaki because of the suspension and because the engine put out too much heat. My only compliants on the Honda are those dumb plastic retainers that hold the plastic together and the fact that it does not have a sight gauge for checking the oil but both of those are minor compliants.

The Recon is a good machine. I really enjoyed mine. They are going for as low as $2900 new in eastern Indiana, so it is a great deal. I now own a 325 Trail Boss, which I prefer due to the better ride and more overall comfort. With the low price on the Recons though you can't go wrong. They are both very good reliable machines. Pick what suits your riding style best.

The Recon is a great quad. Put you some good mud tires on it & you will be impressed on where that thing will go!

Idahorancher,

If you put some mud tires on that Recon you will be amazed at the places that thing will go!

We put Sur Traks on it & they work very good. The downside is they are not quiet as tall as advertised. They appear to be about 1/4 inch or so shorter than stock. The increased traction makes up for the loss of ground clearance.
