I have a 1999 foreman 450ES, I loose the shift quite often, happens more at high speed runs down a road, get a dash in the shift display , have to shut off the machine, shift back to neutral, restart and go. This happened all weekend, while I was at lower speeds, (deadhorse run) in park falls wi, thru deep water and all it did not seem to bother it, when it does happen the speedometer will not show anything at all. Honda dealer said it is not the crankshaft angle sensor. Can anyone help, desperite to find a good answer. If you need more info please let me know.

The same thing happen to me saturday.Its your speed sensor. I changed mine and everything is good now.

Did the speed sensor work for you? And, where is it located??

 

I did not yet put one in, I called Honda and they told me how to diagnose, 20-3 in the Honda service manual, I will check it out before buying a $90 part and let you all know.
