Default electronic shift

i am thinking about buying a 2001 honda 350 4x4. it looks good and runs perfect but i am wondering about the electronic shift on the handlebars. i am going to use it at my deer lease where it gets really muddy. how does the electronic shifter hold up to the elements. some body help please.
