Default Rejetting Carb - Experts Only

Ok guys and gals, I purchased a kit from my 06 rubicon which included a pipe, K&N filter, and a larger jet for the carb. My goal is to gain a little horse power back lost from over sized tires.

The pipe and filter were easy, the jet is going to be hard. My first question is do you think a larger main jet is going to be worth the trouble? I have read several posts concerning rejetting carbs and have gotten mixed reviews. I hate to get the jet put in and have problems.

When I attempted to install the jet, I was told that I may not have to remove the carb, just unbolt it, remove some fuel lines, and rotate it until I can get to the bottom and remove the 4 screws. That sounds good except what i think are the throttle cables kept me from rotating enough to get at the bottom. I was hesitant to remove anything else and decided to put it back the way it was.

I would greatly appreciate any help anyone can give to include any pictures that may guide me. Thanks

Not expert and not Honda but yes it should be easy enough to rotate carb in order to remove bowl. Ya might have a plastic cover over yer throttle ya got to remove first and then perhaps underneith you disconnect by loosening a nut on thecable and then sliding the cables ball end out of its slot. I can get at my Eiger jets though in under a minute without messing with throttle disconnecting once the machines left side plastic is removed, gas line disconnected, and the boot clamps loosened.

ps- personally I would want an aftermarket jet kit besides just the main jet. Such usually includes softer (but progressive) slide spring, adjustable slide needle (for to go leaner or richer), and a selection of main jet that you can use to allow for various elevation and level of modificatins you have installed. My current problem on my Eiger is the guy before me lost the needle jet that the slide needle goes through. Jet kits don't include it so I have to do a moose repair kit or buy the jet OEM. Needle jet sits above the main jet and is easliy lost when working on the main jet.
Service people tell me that simply doing the main jet on its own would give ya more on your top end mainly as that circuit is for yer 1/2 throtte on up. I think your main gains for larger tires comes from the aftermarket pipe and the easier breathing via the K&N. The combination though pretty much demands that ya open up the flow by doing the jet as well. Thats if you want to see the gains that the kit can really offer. A full jet kit would let you fine tune and have better/smoother response.

I'm not an expert, but have done jetting changes...

Your pipe and filter kit will likely make the engine run lean if the jetting is not corrected to compensate (which could damage the engine), so if this came as a filter/pipe/jet kit, I wouldn't skip the jet change.

You may be able to turn the carb over w/o bending anything, but I'd bet you will find it easier to just remove the carb, and you would be less likely to loose anything.

The last road bike I did I used the jets suggested in the kit for the stock engine w/ freer flowing intake and exhaust, and later an exhaust sniffer showed the mixture to be spot-on.
