Honda 2000 450 es
#1
I need help tracking down the problem on my dads 450 es, no spark at the plug. I do not have a manual or wiring diagram. I did swap the ignition control module and no change. I dont know the resistance specs on the coil but I dont seem to be getting any voltage to the coil itself

The ignition power can be traced with a test light. While cranking over the engine, check the test light should flash as a signal is sent to the coil. Green wire at the coil is ground so go from there. I don't have a manual in front of me for wire colors so I will have to shoot from the hip here. Locate the ignition pulse wires coming out of the rear crankcase cover. They are not the 3 yellow wires as those are the stator wires. I believe blue with yellow wire is what you are looking for. Probe the wire at the connector and while cranking over the engine, the test light should flash. If not, the pulser may be bad.
Before condemming the pulser, make sure the voltage regulator is good. No power coming out of there = no spark
Can't guarantee a follow up on my posts. I am behind 168 units at my shop so I have been extremely busy
Hondamechanic should be able to help you out with diagrams etc.. that you need to trace the issue any farther

I emailed you the switches & the wiring sections .. I would first check the gear position switch coupler for moisture , if it is good check the switch using the info.. I believe your problem is that reverse light being on, the bike won't start if it isn't (or doesn't know) it's in neutral..
Here is the basic coil test , the ignition tests for the 1998-04 TRX450 that I have require a " peak voltage adapter "

well, now I am really stumped..LOL checked the gear position switch and it tested fine. then I unplugged the ecm and ohmed the grey wire(reverse) to ground, no short. With the ecm 16 pin unplugged the reverse light goes off plug it back in reverse light on. unplugged the gear position switch both neutral and reverse light on, if I jump the neutral pin to ground(at the gear position switch) the green led gets brighter..but the reverse light is still on..While I had the ecm unplugged and the key on i did a voltage check on all the pins the most I got was 9.6vdc
