HELP! Is the 250EX for me?
#11
Give the polaris trailblazer 250 a try, it has reverse, a snappy two stroke powerplant, auto tranny, and a good reliability record.
As far I see it your getting a lot more on the trailblazer for about $600 to $700 bucks less than the 250ex.
And when you want to mod it up, theres about 4 companies out that specialize in polaris sport quads.

Alright, look 94DGblaster, I know how to ride a clutch, I was mearly asking everyone if it was easy to use and not too touchy or hard to pull. I've rode my friends Blaster numerous times and know how to use the clutch pretty well. As for the 300, I think I might end up getting one, but I'm going to wait til the summer when the 250's been out for a while and it's had some test runs by ATVsport and DirtWheels so I can make the right decision. I really like the idea of the clutch on the 300, the chain drive, the bigger displacement and hop-up ability. But I also like the light weight of the 250 and the snappy throttly response it's supposed to have. I guess I've just been spending too much time around my Recon! I'll have to get some counceling to break away from it to get a 300!

There's a good review of the 250EX in this months Dirt Wheels. It has a little higher compression than the Recon. It also says the 250EX isn't made for the MX track and it sounds like that's what you like to do. It's a nice light quad for trail riding basically but it sounds like you like to do a little jumping so it might not be what you need. You would have no problem handling a 300 EX and you're about the right size for one.

The 300ex would be perfect for you. As I said in my previous post. I am a 5 foot tall, 100lb weakling, and I don't have any problems riding my new 300ex. I was nervous at first, but found it was as easy to ride as my Recon, but handled much better. And for reliability, it hasn't had any problems, you just have to maintain them, like any other quad. I found my 2001 300ex for only $3500 cash, that is better than the 250ex. Get the 300ex, you will never regret it. As for the 400ex, that may be a little too much for you right now, but if you continue to race and jump quads, eventually, in a few years, you will want to move up to something bigger. Good luck, and have a great time with whatever quad you decide on.

We have a new 250EX, a 300EX, and a Recon. If you are into MX and jumping, I would definitely hold out for the 300!! You are young, and probably still growing. The 300 is a bike you can grow into. You can use its capabilities more and more as you gain more experience (it's capable of getting some major air). On the other hand, you probably are already riding at a level that would use up all the capabilities of the 250. Nobody else seems to agree with me, but I think the 250's front end is sprung to tight (very fast rebound), the bike understeers a little, and lands front heavy on bumps. These are no big deal for a beginner or a strictly recreational rider, but if you're messing around on MX tracks, get the 300! The difference in suspension is dramatic!

You WILL be able to handle the 300ex. My 10 year old brother rides my 300ex like a pro. He has no problems with the clutch and shifting so don't let that scare you away. Besides that, once you get used to shifting it's actually more fun to have a quad with a clutch.
I thought the same way....if i'm going to buy a 300, then maybe i should just go for the 400. The only reason i didnt buy the 400 was that i wanted a quad with reverse.
Get the 300, you won't be disappointed. If you don't mind not having reverse and want something really fast then get the 400.

Well, I have a '91 250X, which is basically the same thing as a 300EX, except for electric start...
I also just bought the new 250EX for my girlfriend...
I'd say if you spend most of your time on a MX track...buy a 300EX, it has more suspension travel, pre-load adjustable shocks, a wider stance and more power!
however, if you spend most of your time in the trails, buy a 250EX, it is a little smaller and lighter, has an automatic clutch, and the reverse is super-easy to use.

the 250EX is far from a Recon sure it shares some of the same stuff but the suspension is much better and the motor has been reworked some, the Recons biggest problem in my book has been the suspension, they fixed that with the EX it is well worth getting and will be a big improvement over your current ride.
