Default 05 Foreman Shift Problem

2005 Foreman ES500 2000km
While driving recently in 4th gear, I tried to shift to 5th gear with no response from the tranny, I noticed the "4" was flashing on the display and the quad wouldn't shift up or down. I stopped and turned the key off then back on, and was able to gear down and everything seemed fine. I put on another 50 or 60 km with no re-occurance of the problem.
Anyone ever had this problem?
How can I prevent it in the future?
Thanks Guys

Were you in mud or water when this happened?

If you ride an ES in those conditions, it seems to help to unplug all the connectors to clean them and hit them with some diaelectric grease.

I was driving down a logging road, sandy loose gravel bed, no water to speak of.
I was so suprised it wouldn't shift, I wasn't counting the flashes!
any way it seems fine now, I'm just a little paranoid at this point. You don't have to scroll down too many topics before you get to an ES shift problem.
Next time I'll count.
Thanks
