I have a Foreman 500ES that only has about forty hours on it. Basically new. I have had the service done just a few weeks ago and had trouble starting theother day. Finally got the fuel flowing into the carb andnow when itis running it constantly runs fuel out of theoverflow tube. Not just a little either. It is basically a full stream. I took the carb off and blew it out, cleaned it up with carb cleaner thinking it might have something hung up in there. Reinstalled it and same problem. What could be causing all this fuel to run out of the overflow tube like that?

 

The float valve (like the valve in the back of a toilet) is stuck open. Either it needs readjustment, or there is a bit of grit under the needle. You cleaned the carb, but probably didn't get down to that level.

When it happens to me, I go out and land a couple big jumps and that takes care of it (stuck needle). If it is new and on warranty, make it the dealer's problem.

 

Where is the float valve? I aint superman on carbs but this one wasnt too tough. Is it in the bowl on bottom or what?

 

the float valve is attached to the float in the bowl of your carb. i have a 400ex that was doing the exact same thing,full stream,not a little bit of gas. i rebuilt it twice and put 3 float valves in it,didnt help at all. even the honda shop couldnt figure it out,ended up just gettin another one. is your float adjustable? and take compressed air and shoot up in it....

 

Ill pull it again andfire that cleaner all over. I thought I had blasted every orificeI could see in there but possibly missed it. Do you need to remove the float to get at the valve in question?

 

Yeah, you generally take out the hinge pin.

Also look carefully at the end of the valve. It should be V shaped with no grooves on the V part. Wrong float level can also cause problems.

 

Just got it put back together today. Will drag it all back out and see what I can see. Thanks to all.

 

Get a service manual, and it will show you where eveything is. You won't get to the float without taking it apart.
