If its top speed you want, adjust the gearing by adding a tooth on the front sproket, or dropping 1 - 2 in the rear. The 400 with its lugability, can handle a little higher gearing in the tight trails.

Well said. You have to watch adjusting the gearing. I had 22" rear tires which comes out about a tooth in front. I think it was a bit too much. I had problems stalling at times. Swapped out front to adjust and bam! Great clearance. Unstoppable on the trails!

My 440 was sweet and comfy in the trails. I miss that tractor lugging power it had and would rather have it in many trail riding conditions cause the yfz wants to go. Although I loved my 440, and it lacked a good carb, it couldn't touch my yfz. I've seen ex motors that have been built by curtis sparks (super expensive) and other shops that can beat stock yfz's, but, spend a little on the yfz and bye bye!

I have a 400 with full yosh exhaust and jetted, and on trails i keep right up to all the 450s, drag raced a stock 450r and was side by side till 5th gear he pulled away and also have heard of problems with the big bore kits so just my opinion
