Rubicon vs Rincon
#31
That looks like a good group of people to ride with. Wish I lived near there. Looks like a lot fun.
You can't ride double around here or most places that I know of. Canada being an exception.
The Rincon would squat a little, but so would any IRS system. The AC I had wouldn't if I adjusted the spring setting to the stiffest notch, but got really unstable going up steep inclines (flipped it once that way). I think Polaris are the worst for this (just my opinion, not looking to start any wars here). They squat bad when you hit the gas with one rider. I think the Rincon would be somewhere in the middle of the road for squat when compared to other IRS systems and riding double.
Thanks for the photos, they look nice.

Turfguy, where do you live?? I thought California was the only state that did not allow 2up on a single rider ATV.
Right now a Rincon is still my #1 choice. I am one of those **** brand loyal people and I just don't care for the way belts "feal".
The group we ride with have a Sportsman 500, AC 500 LE, a new Griz with PS, 2 Rubicons, Suzuki 700s, and a 2up Polaris and I do agree that the Polaris squats the worst out of the ones we ride with.
I also think Polaris has the worst belt drive system out of them all.

I live near Chicago, Ill. Michigan is real strict on one rider unless the ATV is made for it. I did talk to one DNR officer in the U.P. of Michigan. He said he doesn't bother two up riders unless they are doing something stupid.
Canada didn't seem to mind two up, lots were doing it there.

I may have gone that route. All of last year I was waiting for the side-by-side to come out. I was hoping it would be similar to the Rhino. Something you could you for work and play. Since I already have a truck I went a different way.
You would think the Honda auto transmissions would be better equipped to handle the extra weight of two riders as well. I never did trust my belt driven quad. Always had this fear of it breaking. It never did though. Would squeak once in a while!!

To be fair, I think the belt systems on most newer quads are much more reliable than the ones from years ago.
I got to ride with a variety of machines down in Arizona, and a lot of them had many thousands of miles w/o ever touching the belt. Part of that might be that they aren't running around playing submarine.
That said, I kind of like the feel of Honda's transmissions over the feel of how a belt drive engages and shifts. Maybe a person would get used to it.

I put 2500 miles on an 02 AC and never had a problem with the belt. The thing would push much more snow than my Honda (was a little heavier). Torque was never a problem, felt like you could pull a house in low. The thing that bothered me the most was shifting from high and low on the trails. Having to stop before you climb a techie/rocky area to put it in low always sucked.
As noted though, I did not do a lot of deep water stuff. Some not a lot!!

We don't do deep mud and water either. When we get to something tuff the wife gets off and I
do it alone, 99% of the time I go back and get her and take her with me.
I do love the Rubicons trans, that's why I bought it. I don't really care for the way belts "drive".
Out of all our friends the only ones that have ever had a belt problem have always been Polaris'.
One friend with a 500 HO lost his with only 600 miles on it. I had told him he really needed to
use low-range under 25 mph riding the trails but he didn't think so. Good thing it had a life time
warrantee. The problem was that it ruined a nice ride for him and the other couple that towed
him home, good thing it was the last day of the trip.
I think the only thing I would change on our Rubicon is a little more power would be nice.
I even like it being in 4-wd all the time and I have got pretty good at shifting in and out of low
range at a pretty good speed (low speed), really no need to stop.
I am so out of date on the new Rubicons, are they fuel injected yet? Disc brakes?? Mine still
has the original brake shoes but I think I need new wheel cylinders in the from, I think two of them
have froze up.
I do like the white Rincons.

That's the deepest water I'v been in.

Current Rubicons have disks up front, and selectable 2wd/4wd, and still carburated.
Warn makes what they call a 424 kit. It allows older 4x4 all the time machines to be shifted in and out of 4x4.

Other than brakes and selectable 4wd the only other changes were body and instrument panel. I may be mistaken, but I believe the fuel gauge is digital and displayed on the instrument panel like my Rincon.
All the same reliable guts. It really is a great quad.
