350 Rancher won't shift
#1
I have a 2000 350 Rancher 4x4 that just won't shift. I have never had any problems with the electric shift before today. I was riding along in 5th gear and went to downshift and nothing happened, I took the manual shift lever and tried to shift but it wouldn't downshift.
I only have about 1600 easy miles on it (no abuse), any Ideas?

Those units had a shift arm update on them.
If the front cover has never been off the quad's engine, it does not have the updated arm in it. Tabs on the shifter arm that grab the shift frum star wheel pegs is the problem. The bend apart or break off and will not allow the arm to turn the shift drum
The job is not hard to do. I can pop them in in around 2 hours

You could call a Honda dealer and see if the service bulletin has ended (I think it has) The update notice was sent out by Honda to the registered owner of the quad in their system. Many times the quad has changed hands and owner ID not changed with Honda so the notice was not recieved by the current owner.
You could request a good will warranty, sometimes they will compraimise over a parts/labor split
A good DSM (district service manager for Honda) will authorize the repair if it has not had one when the quads vin number represents that it has not when entered in their system. A plus is if the quad has low miles and looks like new still. Then again, the quad is 10 years old
