I have a 02 Honda Foreman S 4x4. I lent it out and it was returned with problems. I need help. Problem #1 the head lights do not come on. The display lights for the speedometer work just not the head lights. Problem #2 the oil cooling fan turns on instantly when the key is turned on and does not shut off. Problem #3 the 4x4 light is flashing 4 times. Problem #4 the battery is dead.

Does any one know what the flashing 4x4 light, 4 times indicates or where I can find indicator codes? And how to test the thermo sensor or troubleshoot the cooling fan? Could these problems be related to the battery???

 

Sounds like something got awfully wet.
The 4 code is power failure
I will double check my manual when at the shop to be sure
Check all the fuses and connectors at the ecm, voltage regulator and handlebar switches for moisture.

You mentioned the battery being dead... You might start with a good, charged battery and go from there.

 

All the fuses under the seat were good, and the new battery did not solve any of the other problems. It cranks up fine and idles ok but I have not road it. when the key is turned on the cooling fan turns on instantly. And the fans RPM increases and decreases directly with the engine idle/throttle. I do not leave the new battery hooked up for fear something may have shorted out the old one.

 

Have you checked the connectors, especially for the ECM and voltage regulator?
