I am going to install AC Racing Nerfs on my 400EX. Should I leave the guards on the rear of the foot pegs or remove them? In all the pictures I see, show's them without the guard's. It dont seem safe to remove them but it look's better without them.

I put the graydon nerfs on my 400 and I left the guards on. All thay did was push the outside of the plastic closer to the tire. You could cut around it if you want to, but you dont have to.
I think its looks better with them on and I don't have to worry about my foot getting caught in the tire.

The Graydon's are great! I would not recommend the crome ones, thay are a pain to take care of. I have the aluminum nerfs thay look great and are easy to install. I paid about $145 for them
The AC's are nice to but more expensive I think.
Thay make the propeg nerfs that are even more expensive that replace your existing pegs.

Have you checked out the DG race pegs? I have a pair and I love them. The stock pegs get removed, and the peg is part of the bar. The foot position is lower and further back than stock-great for jumping. The guards get removed, so once in a while I buzz my heel on the rear tire, but it's no big deal.
