Default new to fourwheelers

Trannies wear out and they typically get harder to get into gear or harder to get out of gear. This same thing applies to getting it between gears. Running the engine without oil means the tranny didn't have oil either. Or the clutch. Or the clutch basket (the thing that holds the clutch plates). Have you changed the oil yet? If not, that may help. If the clutch basket has grooves in it it may not be allowing all the plates to move appart. This happens to all clutches over time. But the lack of oil is BAD.

There sould be only about a 1/4 to 1/2" of play at the end of the clutch lever before the lever at the case of the engine starts to move. Make sure the adjustment is right. Then try a set of vise grips on the case lever and see if that allows you to get to neutral. May be that the wire is frayed or something.

I understand the budget thing. Baby gets the money....for the next 18 years. (I have two kids, I know.)

Lastly, If all else fails, try using your hand to shift the lever to neutral. It is more sensitive.

ok so my atv has started smoking a little more, here is the info i found out on it( the carb is jetted and the engine has been bored 40 over) exact words of the guy i bought it from and he dont know any other info on it, but back to the smoking, i know it has to be the piston ring from what you guys have told me so i went to auto zone and got some RISLONE Ring Seal, its supposed to stop smoking reduces burning oil and seals worn pistons and rings,i added to engine oil and let idle for 5 minute and since then it has smoked ALOT worse lol and my uncle said it sounds like a rod is knocking( not sure on this though lol) so i was wondering if this stuff will eventually work and temporarily fix my ring problem and smoking or if i should just stop riding now and wait to get new piston rings?

I would stop riding it. It's already been bored .40, IDK how much further you could go. Hopefully the piston ring is just cracked, and your not scoring the cylinder walls.
