Default No Owner's Manual, No Service Manual...

I am one of the FOOLS as you say that asked a stupid question on here.
Needed to know how to reset the oil change light on my 2008 420 rancher and couldn't find how to do it in the service manual ( BECAUSE IT IS NOT SHOWN IN IT) and I do have owners manual/service manual for all 3 of my atvs and dirtbike
Threads like this are the reason most new people here will not post.
They don't want to be insulted or called names for asking a question.....
So the next time I ask a stupid question here I will make sure I put not for RECONRANGER so you don't have to read it.... Your replies were always helpful but lately you have been just insulting most people when they ask something...Unless it is about how great your atvs are
If it wasn't for us FOOLS asking questions on here wouldn't be much activity here...
Not everybody is as lucky as you to know everything.....
You have yourself a great day...................

There is alot of excellent members on this site that are always more then willing to help us fools out when needed.....and I for one am very thankful for them members.

THE ONLY STUPID QUESTION IS THE ONE YOU NEVER ASK..........

Default No Owner's Manual, No Service Manual...

I have always came to forums for the hands on knowledge, I have always found it better then the written word many times. Chatting with someone who has done what I am trying to do is better, they know the tricks/tweeks that make the job easier and faster.

I thank all the people who take the time to answer stupid questions and not belittle them. My hat is off to you...

I was always taught if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything, works in forums also...

The guy you are buying a used machine from doesn't even know where the owner's manual is....what should that tell you???? You think that guy was keeping up on even the most basic maintenance, much less things like valve adjustments???? Might be a sign to pass that one up......

More important....is "that guy" perhaps you????

Default No Owner's Manual, No Service Manual...

Hey Recoranger, IF you are refering to me, which you are because I was the only one who mentioned this. I only buy new eqiuipment, I don't buy used stuff. All I'm saying is grabbing the owners is not the first thing I do when I sell something. I am meticulous on maintenance. 28 years of owning a lawncare/ landscape/ snow removal business with 2 locations in 2 different states, each with over 100 lawns to maintain on a weekly basis and as many or more snow accounts has me well versed on maintenace. If I didn't Know ho to rebuild carbs or fix general **** on my own, I'd just be keeping a small engine shop rich. I've owned more small engines than I care to count. Which means I have more owners manuals than I care to look at. And YES I know where they all are, I have a file cabinet full of them. I was eluding to, when I said people misplace things, is some may have children that get into things, You get to the point that you can work on these thing blind folded and don't need the owners manual more than the first time you perform maintenace. I have a maitenance book that I write P/N and required fluid weights and measures. I try to keep to 1 brand cause it makes keeping supplies alot easier. Right now I own; 7 backpack blowers, 8 hedge trimmers, 17 string trimmers, 4 21" walk behind mowers, 2 44" commercial walkbehinds, 6 60" commercial z turns, 1 60" outfront 4wd 27 hp deisel with a bagging system with hydro dump, 1 52" commercial outfront mower, 4 edgers, 1 stick edger, 3 powerbrooms, 3 telescoping power pruners, 4 aerators, 2 seed n thatch, 4 augers, 2 boats, 3 motorcycles, 12 snowblowers, 3 ATV's, 5 chainsaws, 35 hp 4wd deisel tractor, 2 skidsteers, 2 lawn vacs, 2 debris blowers, 3 riding fertilizer speaders, 2 truck/trailer mounted sprayers, 2 gas power air compressors, 2 trenchers, 4 33" riding mowers, 2 generators, 3 72" out front commercial rotary mowers, an this is some of the small engine stuff. Then I have all the implements, trucks, trailers, cars, etc. Then this is compounded because I run every peice of power equipment on a three year rotation. I've kept the ATV's longer than three years cause they don't see the hour the other equip does. You can see the three year thing if you look at My wheelers 03, 06, 09.
IDK what you all have Recon, but if you have the room and time to make sure every owners manual is with EVERY MACHINE WHEN YOU SELL IT, then you are just more perfectly organized than most of us working folk. When buying, if the only thing missing in the equation is the owners manual I personally would not worry about it. I can tell, as I think most can, whether something has been taken care of or not. Don't reply to others problems if you don't want to. It's better to say nothing than to belittle someone. THERE ARE PLENTY OF GOOD PEOPLE ON HERE THAT WILL HELP.

i think recon is refering to alot of people who come on here and dont even try to do a search before asking a fairly simple question thats probaly been anwsered a dozen times already. also the people who are always bugging about what bike is faster. and yes the service manuals are a little technical but if you cant understand one than you might not wanna be doing any serious wrenching. just my opinion please dont chew me out. recon has helped soooo many people on here. i only wish i had his knowledge. again just my opinion.

thanks
andy

No...not refering to you personally....so don't flatter yourself that I would waste my time on that.....

I too have never bought a used vheicle, because I just don't trust how the previous owner maintained it.

See and then there's all us common folk. This last quad is the first new thing (vehicle of any kind) that I have bought new. With the family and house and a job that dosn't pay $50,000 a year I have NEVER been able to afford it. You buy used there is almost always something wrong with it, you just hope its small.

I can't believe the bashing that goes on here, forums always have the dumb questions, thats why they are here. If everyone read their manuals from front to back and then spent 2 weeks reading everything they saw on the internet and at the library we wouldn't need this forum.

I enjoy getting and reading the dumb questions. that meens that there are new people joining the sport. We should help and incourge them not scare them away from here. Who knows, in a few years they may be a moderator with all the answers. That happens, trust me.

Help, be nice, incourage. The same values I teach my kids should be practiced here..

I'm glad. I couldn't stand another snide reply.LOL
I did not say I have never purchased a used vehicle, I said equipment. On Friday, I just purchased a used truck. I know what to look for on vehicles, and if you can get them for the right price you can afford to repair them. If you have any mechanical ability you can save even more. For me, it is no big deal to rip out a n engine, transfer case, or transmission. Find a rebuilt and slap it in and your good to go. On the New vehicles I buy personally, I realize the day I drive it of the lot I'm losing $6,000. I don't buy many used, only 4 in my life with this "new" one. It deffinately is not new is has 212,000, has a lot of new parts though!
