looking at a 01 rubicon. tranny problems...help
I am going to look at a 01 rubicon tommorow and it has some tranny issues. I was hoping if someone can tell me what is wrong. The owner says the bike will run in reverse and low, but won't go into high. Are there any ways to test the bike before I but to narrow down the problem? If it needs a tranny replacement, I won't buy it. If it is a electronics or shift motor or angle sensor, I am buying it cheap enough (1200) to fix it and still not lose my a$$. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Going to look at it tomorrow.

the rubicon tranny uses a series of hydralic servos if memory serves. If it runs in low and reverse, it has to be something simple, maybe a sensor or something, id grab it they are pretty good bikes, especially with a fresh piston and some aftermarket shocks with the money u save. good luck

like others have mentioned, anything flashing in the digital display?
i own a 04 rubi and mine will sometimes flash D1 D2 ESP and when this happens i usually only have low range and reverse, also when in reverse the engine will sputter pretty bad.
as suggested above, it is mostly likely a sensor, and i would say its the angle sensor ($80 here in Canada)
let us know if all this helps ya! and sounds like a great price for that bike!

sounded like a bean grinder going into gear. yikes. I took a small magnet with me to put in the oil and got some shavings. With research from other posts, i figure the tranny was shot. Seeing as the engine and tranny run off the same oil... no good. I passed on the bike, but thanks for the help.
