Question 300 Honda FourTrax 2WD need to find year ? 96/97

I have checked for the vin tag on the front frame and have not found it. I wish some one could tell me just where on the frame. I found 2 different #`s 127 an 128 and I am all most sure that is not it. That is more likely to be the part stamp #. Then the other number I found was on the engine 281CM which someone can look it up in a book and tell me what year it is.

I want to download a PDF version of service manual for it but need to know what year it is. There are no other #`s on it. Where can I find a place to get a download from.

Sure hope someone can help me out. I well say Thank You in advance for your time and your help.

I have never owned a 300, but traditionally Honda has put the VIN up front on a crossbar between the two shock mounts. Check up in that area.....

The year is encoded in the 10th digit of the VIN:

reconranger: Thank you so much for all the information. I just checked to see if any one had seen my cry for help.

I well need to get the wheeler out of shed and in the day light and do a major wash job and then I can find the numbers. I well do that in the morning.

When I find it I well post a message.

My buddy inherited an old 300 when he bought an orange orchard. I volunteered to check it out for him and change the oil. The oil was like chocolate syrup! I did a flush and changed it out, and as far as I know years later that old 300 is still going strong...

Might have been stolen at some point in past history, and somebody rubbed the VIN out????
