Lift Kits on rancher

Default Lift Kits on rancher

Im looking to put a 2" lift kit on my 07 SRA honda rancher 420. i know that i will only gain ground clearance in the front and because of my Solid Rear Axle. has anyone else done this to their rancher? Im also looking into the high lifter rear spring since i ride double with my rancher. it says it increases the load of the wheeler by 100lbs, and gains an inch of fender clearance. i am only running 25" tires so i dont need a lift, i just want one. anyone have any ideas or comments let me know.

The great thing about Honda, is it keeps the center of gravity low for a very safe, stable ride. All you are looking to do is negate all that...and for what???? This is a sweet little trail quad, that you are looking to ruin. If you want a monster that's a yard up in the air, sell it and get something else!

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I agree that the rancher is a sweet trail quad. so after your stern answer the lift kit is out because you are right there isnt any point. however since 80% of the time i ride my rancher i ride double with my GF i am still very interested in the high lifter spring to which basically increases pre load and adds 100 pounds of load carrying capabilities. i really think this would be more beneficial than a 2" lift.

I have the Hi-Lifter springs on the front and rear. You will be lucky if you get any lift at all. However they do work for carrying a passenger or loading the rear rack with sand bags to help traction in winter. I put them on the front to carry the weight of a snow plow (no sag at all) and on the rear to carry a passenger or sand bags. Now that winter is over and I don't carry a passenger any more ( my wife now has her own 420 ), I take them off in the summer and put the stock springs back on for trail riding because with out the added weight on the front or the rear the ride is way too stiff for my liking. If you are getting sagging in the front or rear you can replace the OEM shocks and springs for about the same price as the spring and tool set. However if you are carrying a passenger most of the time the rear spring is a good buy for that purpose, but without any weight in the front you get to way to much bump steer on rough trails.

I added a 2" lift and 25" tires on my 420. The lift didn't mess with ride much at all, the added ground clearence was worth the small amount I lost in ride.

The 2" lift and 25" tires added 2 1/8" ground clearence.

If you only need the added wieight load (a passanger) just get the better spring on the back. If you want higher ground clearance, add the lift. I don't think just the lift will do what you need as a passanger will still push the back of the quad down.

So thats my 2 cents worth, add what you need/want.

Forgot to add that if you do add the lift besure to add the wheel spacers on the front tires, expensive but needed and worth it.

Don't install the lift kit, it adds too much stress to the front and rear CV joints/shaft. People on high lifter forum have problems with the boots coming of because of the angle and rear drive shaft popping out or braking the rear u-joint and swing arm. Its one of those thing some do have issue and some don't but its not a chance I'm going to take! But hey whatever floats your boat! Do what you want like Nikrosis said.

On the HL springs I took them off and sold them, way to stiff for me! Felt like my neck was about to snap. But I might buy the rear only again because it sags to much (not with me but if I take people with me it does.)

Default Spacers Required?

I have 14" ITPs with 27" swamplites on my 420 and thinking of doing the 2" lift. Will it require spacers if I do this mod?

I when riding with a person who just bought 25" Mud Bug tires for his 350 Rancher,it it night and day how that ATV can go through rough terian now vs when it had its 24" mediocre tires.

24" 2 plies belong on a 250 2wd maybe but should be tossed as soon as possibly on any other utility ATV.

I went the cheap way. I went to the local hardware store and bought 1.5 inch galvanized theaded couplings. Took my springs apart and put the couplings in and got a little lift out of it but my 30 inch tires dont scrub with me and my wife on it.

Yes you will. The tires won't rub but if you hit a big enough bump they will. May cause one to stop turning. The spacers are needed....
