Default '87 250x left engine cover crack

Well since i bought my 250x this year, its always leaked oil, but its been getting worse, so now I cant even take a long ride without fear that i'll run out. I took the left side engine cover off and i can see where it was cracked up (from the chain i guess) and someone JB welded it. But i guess it will need some major work or replacement, i can try to remove all the JB weld and re glue it, but i'll need a gasket or something that i can seal it with. Or i could just replace it. Any suggestions? I cant ride till i get this fixed...

I found this on ebay for you. If I were you, I'd clean it and JB weld it again. Then buy a cover off ebay and if the JB doesn't hold, , you've got plan B. But JB is usually pretty good for that case job.

Thanks for the help, i'm going to try JB and a new gasket for now and if that doesn't work i'll pick up a new cover.
Any tips on cleaning all the oil off it so the JB wield sticks?

I ended up using orange clean. I was out of brake cleaner. Will see how it holds. I think a new gasket will fix it up though...

as long as you got all of the oil and grease off you should be fine. jb weld should hold up fine i just used it to patch my transmission pan after a rock took it out
