Default New tires

Just bought a used 2002 TRX250EX (1st ATV, so I thought I'd ride the hell out of a used 250 before I bought a new one) I need new tires. Being new in the arena of quads, I thought I'd ask around to see if any recommendations for the Honda TRX250EX may be made.

If you're just planning to "ride the hell out of it" go and get yourself some Turf Tamers.

What type of terrain you riding???

I find ITP Holeshot XC's are vitrually indestructible, and work well in a variety of conditions. Can't swear about mud however, seeing it is nonexistent here.

Thanks,
I looked at Turf Tamers and liked 'em. Problem is they don't come in 22X10-9 (at least those that I have looked at) and I don't want to upgrade to a different rim.

I think the Holeshot XCs come in 22x11x9 and they will fit your machine......they are a really good all around tire.....

The 22" (height) and the 9 (rim size) need to match, but either 10" or 11" (width) will work just fine.

From what I just looked up for you, everyone lists 20" rear tires for the 250ex....... I wonder if those 22" tires are not stock and someone put them on for more ground clearance.

You can run 20" apparently, unless someone knows otherwise. Maybe another 250ex owner can comment but from what I've see everything says 20" rears.......

Thanks ss97,
That's strange, I looked up a tire chart for the TRX250EX and the 22X10-9 was the tire that was called for. Where did you go to look?

If you want to stay 22" in back, then you can get the Holeshot XCT (XC Tall). They are kind of big and heavy for the little 250 however.

I run the 20" XC in back and lose a little bit of ground clearance, but gain a little bit of low end power because it lowers the effective gearing a bit.

Ran Turf Tamers on the kids quads back in the day. They were great on hardpack, but the tread pattern was to closely spaced for other types of conditions. Not a good all around tire IMO.

Thanks everyone for your input. I think I've made a choice, but I thought I'd run it by you. Anyone have experience with the Kenda Knarly?
