Question 400EX electrical problem, batter, stator or rectifier?

I just bought a 99 400EX and the battery is dead (I'm having it charged and checked), I had the quad jump started and it ran fine but the neutral light was so dim that I thought that the bulb was burnt out. When the battery is hooked up to the vehicle that's jumping it the neutral light is very bight but as soon as the bike is started and the jumper cables are disconnected the light is very very dim.

Does anyone have any insight what the problem might be, I thought that as soon as the bike was stated the bike would put out enough power that light even if the battery was completely dead.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I don't have a volt meter and I have no idea how to work one.

Thanks,

Tom

I'm not an electrical expert but I'd make sure the batt is good and then see if you still have the problem.

Yes, my bayou will run with a flat battery, so it should put out enough power. Have you cleaned the grounds lately?

Thanks guys..

My battery was bad even though it's not very old so I'll be getting a new one tomorrow, I hope it doesn't last a week and start acting up again.

Well it looks like it was the battery but I won't know for sure for about a month or so(unless I take the quad out).
