08 Rancher 420 4x4 "clunking" noise near driveshaft
#1
Hey Gang,
Driving my wheeler today when I heard a clunking noise coming from under the machine. Turned it off and rolled it in neutral with the engine off to get a better look. The noise seems to me coming from the rear of the machine near the left middle portion of the chassis. (driveshaft area) Lifted the rear end with chain fall and manually turned the rear wheels, however, no noise. Drop the rear end to the floor and roll it, the noise is back.
This doesn't sound good but I'm not a mechanic. Now I have to dig out my warranty info to see where I sit. Does anyone have any ideas on a cause, and even better, someone with a similar symptom????
THANK YOU !

on some of the 07 models the lock nut in the rear end was installed backwards causing the noise. The locknut was on the axel. If you take the nut off and turn it around it will solve that problem. Honda is aware of the problem. call your dealer they will know.
