Question New battery for my 400ex?

Does my new battery have to be a 12 volt or can it be a 14? I saw at wal-mart some quad batteries but they were 14 volts so I don't know if that would work or not.

I'm not sure which battery you're looking at, but I know car batteries are 12V, but put out 13.8 to 14.4 when the car is running. Perhaps that is where the 14V number comes from, because I have never heard of a 14V battery. Just speculating...

Its should be just fine. If anything you will have a hotter spark. Thus making for better throttle response and MPG.

Batteries put out 12.6v at 100% charge. Alternators are regulated to 13.8-14.4v usually, to gove charging headroom. You are probably seeing the maximium regulator voltage notice.
