Rubicon Tranny

Texmud, I see what you were talking about now. I get perturbed when I too see comments completely unrelated to the topic at hand. I knew you weren't talking to me when you were refering to the "band of Yahoos" It's just that the band hadn't quite joined in yet. I guess they call that a preemptive strike, and you nailed it.
Now on to the Tranny question. Are they in fact 2 separate units bolted together or is it just inside the engine case? I thought that because it used the engines oil to make it work, that they would be one complete unit. Enquiring minds wish to know. Thanks....

Separate, but share the external oil tank. And to the many snide comments about repairs to the tranny, Honda made the choice to replace, rather than try to repair (and train to repair). Not that it can't be repaired.
By the way, Polaris folks, don't forget to mention 3-wheel drive, and drum brakes. The same thing gets repeated so much, it's kinda like a chant. Don't want to disappoint us poor, unfortunate Ruby owners!

Go to http://www.epowersports.com and use their interactive parts finder. They have exploded views, as well as parts lists and prices available online for the Rubi. They don't show the tranny as a unit though, but rather broken down into individual parts.

Hey bro they may have had a auto tranny on a motorcycle since 1962,must have been a real good one, real popular to.How many cycles do you see with that auto tranny today? That tranny has only been in atv use for less than a year. Now if that tranny had been in a atv use sice 1962 you would have a point. You Ruby owners are going to be sick a couple years from now. I truly believe that tranny will be the end of Hondas dependability record. That tranny will never take the kind of abuse it will get on a 4 wheeler.I gots to give Honda credit though for at least trying something new.

I have another view of why this is. When I worked for Chevrolet, and the new ZR1 vette came out, dealers were given the same instructions. The ZR1 motor was serviced only as a unit as regards internal repairs. My feeling is that not enough dealer people were qualified to fix 'em, so instead of creating more problems in the field, they wanted the factory to handle it.
Lets face it, right now, how many local dealers have anybody who could fix or troubleshoot the new Ruby tranny?
Perhaps as the trans becomes more common, and potential problems realized and addressed, a different policy will be put in place. A common repair facility or rebuild exchanges are just 2 possibilities.

That tranny has been in some other motorcycles too. It is still not experimental. Only time will tell on the tranny, but I have full confidence in it. If I have to spend a grand or so in 2 years to keep the quad going, thats fine with me. I figure in 2 years there will be other things I want anyway....
