Wow what a night . Quad drags lasted until 1:00 AM , of course the 350cc fourstroke and under class was almost the last class to run . I raced two classes 350cc and under and 500cc and under . The track was a sand drag , 300ft , with a xmas tree start . My first race was against an older 400ex (red and black plastic ) it was completely stock except for the rear tires . He had kfx 400 stock rear tires same as mine . With the sand it was easy to launch hard without standing straight up off the line . He got a slight edge off the start maybe 1/3 of a bike length and beat me by about 2 bike lengths . So I would have to say that yes a 400ex is faster than a 350x . You could argue that a 350x in a trike frame is faster than in a 4 wheeler but it would also be harder to take off with out standing it up . Onto the 350cc an under I beat a 250ex with a 10 yr old on it in the 1st round ( yes I felt bad ) . 2nd round I raced a 250x with an extended swingarm and aftermarket pipe and maybe some motor mods but I doubt it . I beat him by 8 or 9 bike lengths . 3rd round I raced a 350x three wheeler . It had a wiseco piston ( size and compression unknown) an after market muffler something cheap like a DG. He had stock looking tires and he said it was a friends bike and he didnt know much about it . he beat my son because he red lighted . They both left together but mt son rolled just before the light changed . My son had him by 2 bike lengths at the end . When I raced the trike we both left and cut a good light I missed my shift into 5th and still beat him barely at the end it was very close. Next I raced another 250x . He had a wheelie bar and a Curtis Sparks full race exhaust ( $459.00) with aftermarket a arms and shocks . No real threat here right ? WRONG !!!!! He cut a good light and beat me by at least 7 bike lengths and he may have let off .It wasnt even close . I raced him twice with the same result . I didnt get a chance to ask him what all he had done to it because it was 1:00 am and everyone was wanting to load up and get out of there . He never ran that bike in any other classes he had a 450r honda he was racing . That 250x could have very easily outrun the 400ex I raced and maybe even a piped 400ex ? I would have never guessed that someone could make a 250x motor run like that . Next weekends races are at dirtcountry and the track will be dirt and not sand . I will try to post my results . If I do happen to beat a 400ex it will be because I hook up better or cut a good light . I have answered my own question motor for motor in a drag race a 400ex is faster than a 350x . Thanks for reading my post .

A 350x trike with the right driver is a pretty quick bike.

I know a trike with a good rider is a fast bike . I use to have a 350x and loved racing it . But I will stick to my original post and say that in a heads up stock trike for a stock 400ex the 400ex would win . My son has beat a 400ex before and I might race one this Sat. If I beat one I will post the results . I watched the video of me racing the 250x and he beat me by more than 10 bike lengths and he did let off the gas about 2/3 down the track .

Dirt Country is in Blanchester Ohio just on the other side of Loveland . Go to dirtcountrymx.com for info and directions . They have about the same classes as Wolfe bros . They have a stock quad any cc . But it most be stock with no mods . They have a 400cc and under 4 stroke class .Was you racing a 700 raptor ? I think they have a class for those but Im not sure . They dont have the classes posted on the sight right now but those are the ones I can remember . thanks Bob

Nice Raptor . I am trying to upload pics of mine but I am having trouble with the size of the pic I will try again tomorrow. Mine is a 2000 300ex with 400ex A arms and shocks , a 350x Atc rear swingarm and shock , an extended rear axle , a 1986 350x engine stock ,barnett racing clutch and a K&N filter with a modified airbox lid . It has an outwears cover on it . I painted the frame Mopar Sublime Green and my plastic is black . I made my own 2 into 1 exhaust and I am running a 450r honda muffler .

Is drag race time again . I am running my 300ex with a 350x motor again with some changes . First is the gearing I have been running a 12 front and a 36 rear wich equals a 3.00 gear ratio . Stock 350x is a 13/40 = 3.08 so I changed my gears to a 12/37 =3.08 . Also the 350x came with 22 " rear tires so I got a set of those .I was running a 400ex carb on my bike (38mm) but I recently swapped it for a 300ex carb (32mm) and my bike is running way better. I changed the jetting on the 300ex carb of course 145 slow jet and a 150 main jet . My bike is stock with and after market air filter and a 2 into 1 exhaust . I thought a stock 350x had a 34mm carb but they have a 31mm . Anyone running a 400ex carb should look into a 300ex carb it runs way better . I thought my bike ran good with the 400ex carb but the plug was always black .Now its a light gray and it has way more power . Who knows maybe I will outrun a 400ex ? I thought I should go with stock gearing and tires to get an accurate result . I will be raceing in Wapakaneta Ohio on june 18th 2011. I am racing in the 350 class and I will run in the 500cc and under class. I will post results with info on others bikes if available . thanks for reading my post

Just got back from the drag races. I raced a banshee in the practice round and beat him . Because he was spinning the whole way . My bike hooked and was gone . I ran my same gearing as before 12/36 . I also raced in the 4 stroke unlimited class and beat a 400ex , he got a bad start, but my son raced him and they both got a good start and my son beat him also . I raced in the 500cc and under class and won a couple races because the other racers red lighted but I will take it . Then I raced in the 350cc and under /200 blaster and trail blazer class . First race was against a 300ex with a pipe . I let him take off first so I didnt red light and I bet him by a couple of bike lengths . Next race was against a trailblazer and I let her take off first and i beat her by 6 or 7 bikes. Next was a blaster I didnt see the threat there but he beat me by a bumper. So I am in the consolation round where I beat 3 warriors they all had aftermarket exhausts but only one was really fast I beat him by 2 bike lenghths . So now I get to race the blaster again who has also beat my son by a bumper length . I cut a good light because I was done playing around and had him beat for 299 and 1/2 feet but unfortunately for me it was a 300 ft race . For some reason they let us run again for the finals . So I left him on the line again because I cut a great light . With the same result he beat me by 6" or so . I had him beat all the way until the end . I talked to him after the race he said the guy who hosted the quad drags built his motor . It had the vitos stroker crank and the vitos bigborekit with a 4" extended swingarm . He said the bike was okay on the bottom end but had a ton of top end power . I should have asked him how it does in the woods . I forgot to check my time but one of the fastest banshees was going 64 mph in 300ft and that was a banshee with a banshee motor stock appearing frame and suspension not a stretched frame with a rotax engine . If I had to guess I would say I was going 52 to 56 ? Another surprise was a 12yr old kid riding a crf150 . That bike was wicked fast . They let him run in the 125cc and under class so he was racing cr125's,kx125's and some kind of enduro 125 and he beat all of them . He sdaid it was all stock except he was running 108 octane in it . It had the stock exhaust on it so I have no reason th doubt him . But wow that bike was fast I would love to put one of those in a quad frame . All in all a great day of racing thanks for reading my post

Race time again . Sept 10th 2011 in Wapakaneta Ohio. I am running my 300ex with a 350x engine again . I am definitely changing my gearing this time . I am running close to stock gearing 12/36 =3.00 but with my 20" tires I am killing my top speed . My son is running stock 350x gearing 13/36 =3.08 but he is also running 20" tall tires .

Stock gearing on 350x is 13-40. Ratio of counter sprocket (13) to rear sprocket (40) is 3.0769 to 1. Takes counter sprocket 3.0769 revs to turn axle 1 rev. Stock tires are 22" with circumference of 69.115" (Honda has 68.3" in their manual.) Tires vary in circum. from brands and wear. I used "pie" to understand ratios. Divide circumference (69.115) by ratio (3.0769) = 22.4625 (inches of tire travel per one counter sprocket revolution.
20" tires would have 62.8318 circumference. Divide ratio and you have 20.42 inches of travel.
14-40 gearing with 20" tires would be 2.8571 to 1, 21.99" tire distance.
14-39 gearing would be 2.7857 to 1, 22.55" tire distance (closest to stock)
13-36 gearing is close also. 22.682

I done the same math with 400ex specs 15/38 ,20" tall tires and came up with 24.834

I didnt really think rear tire size would make that big of a difference but I stand corrected. So in order to get a true result I will run a 13/36 gearing with 20" tall tires . Thats as close to a stock 350x I can get without buying a set of 22" rear tires . My 20" tires hook up very good. With 22" tires I can get 24.95 . But I dont know if I will top out in 300 feet .I have a set of warrior rear tires on Honda rims but dont know how they will hook up ? I will try both and post results and try to get a video . I will also remember to get a time slip with mph

Thanks for reading my post. OHIO BOB
