Ehhh, I duuno about that. Hillbilly? You look just as much like a goof on a sport quad as you do a utility quad. Maybe even moreso! For all the things you say about not "needing" a utility quad, I can say the same thing about sport quads. Dont wanna get wet? You'll get plastered on a sport quad. Need a break from bumps? My IRS/AT Rancher rides sweeeet. A 400ex sure doesnt. Want to actually carry a few things for a longer ride? No such luck with a sport quad. Tired of shifting every 5 seconds? Sorry. Need a gas tank that actually holds enough gas for a trip further than your back yard? Better get a utility quad! And, how many jumps are you really gonna do? If you're into racing and serious track riding then sure, get a sport quad and be done with it. But, most people ride in lots different areas and on different terrain and they needa Ute for that. Thats why Utes outsell sport quads by a huge margin.

My 09 Rancher AT/IRS is a great balance of good, sporrty handling and comfort. Plus it has 4wd if you want to play in mud/snow or do serious work. Its got racks for storage and carry-on items. Great quad. Period.

Just my 2 cents...

Not ticked....I just dont get his logic. Sport quads have a MUCH smaller "usuable" range than a Ute does. They are specialty quads for very specific kinds of riders and terrain. You had better be on smooth dirt with jumps to get any use out of them. If there is mud, snow, bumps, etc, etc...they get annoying really quick. They are made for racing applications. Its just like buying a cafe-racer street bike when what you really need was a touring motorcycle. You'll get sick of the cafe racer really quick.

Before anyone buys a quad make SURE you know what most of your riding will be and act accordingly. Dont buy a sport quad because there is one cool jump in the woods....

It has nothing to do with the brand of machine your ride, rather the one who is riding the machine.

Just because you ride a different brand or a different type of machine, or an automatic, clutch, or manual shift machine doen't make you a bad guy.

In recons world it does, you're a lesser person than he is and if you were as smart as he is you would ride the exact ATV as he does, use the exact same oil and gas.

If you ride a bike with a belt you're an over weight fat lazy red neck. If you want power steering you're a skinny arm weakling.

And now that someone wants a utility quad they're a hillbilly.

It's not the machine, it the rider.

He is from California. That usually speaks for itself (no offense to other Californians that don't stereotype the same way Recon does)). Wouldn't live there no matter how much I was offered.

I witnesses first hand the limitations of a sport quads at Hatfield McCoy this spring. Was a large group 10-12 sport bikes that all tried to climb a hill/mountain that we just climbed (note: 2 of the 6 riders in our group were women and not a ton of experience). Not one of the sport quads made it. Our 4x4 climbed right up to see the beautiful scenery at the top. The ladies just put the Foreman 450's in 2nd and crawled right up, no issues.

I have nothing against a sport quad, I would own one if that is the kind of riding I think I would enjoy. I live close enough to Silver Lake Sand Dunes, MI to make use of it. I simply would rather cruise around trails that lead me too great scenery. Going up and down and over sand just doesn't do it for me.

That's it, I am done with this now.

On the original post, buy whatever you think you will get the "most" use out of. No sense in having it sit in the garage.

If you want 4x4 in a sport chassis, check out the Yamaha 450 Wolverine and the Polaris 500 Scrambler.

Noone said sport quads wont go through bumps or even mud. They just arent as good at it as Utes are. Not even close. Try riding a sport quad all day long. You'd be way more beat-up than a Ute rider. And, where do you put your stuff? Or do you just ride for short trips? How do you stay dry? How do avoid getting plastered with mud? Extra gas? A place for a freegin water bottle? I mean... sport machines are SO narrowly focused.

The ONLY place a sport quad beats a Ute is on a race track. Thats it. It(sport quad) loses out in comfort, convenience, versatility, and overall usability. And, most big Utes will kill them in a drag race too.

arent as good going through bumps lol ill do it a lot faster than a ute.i do ride a sport quad all day long and some utes that ride with me dont make it home in one piece because they TRY to keep up with me and crash. and im not more beat up when their big heavy beast rolls on them or flips over going up a hill.where do i put my stuff what stuff i dont need any stuff besides my bottle of water in my tool box that i take my tools out of because i ride a 400ex dont need em.how do i stay dry? im not a sissy if i get wet woohoo.mud? i avoid it im not a mudder.dont need extra gas my quad doesnt suck it like a ute. how do you go up hills on them heavy things? how you keep up with the sport quad riders that know how to ride? my guess is you dont! and straight lines are for GIRLS! i dont drag race.

My pickup truck is better than your Mini, two different beasts designed for two different purposes.
