Break in period is a myth. In this issue of Auto world weekly it explains in detail that these synthetics can properly break in an engine, they are not too "slippery" As a matter of fact most high end sports cars come from the factory with synthetics, GM says they would on all autos if it werent for cost issues. Thats why they put it only in the corvettes. If mobil and Gm say you can and its a myth, I believe them..

Sports cars and most other autos dont count as all the engines are pre-broke in from factory using an extremely high detergent oil to collect and remove any particals thay may be in the engine from assembly and then the filters and oils are switched to synthetics for when you buy them.So yes they are right that they come from the factory with synthetics but its not used oil.The engines have been properly run long before you ever get to sit in it!
A good synthetic oil will break in an engine but it will take longer because the engine runs cooler and with less friction.
The biggest reason for this is extra protection during test drives
90% of quads are sold without ever being riddin for more than 5-10 minutes and that is usually done buy the mechanic that assembled the bike.
My car came with Mobil 1 in it when it was new off the lot but the engine had over two hours of running time already the speedo read .1KM but was tagged that it met/passed all tests!
Every quad is also run before you buy them. They have to run them to set up carbs and check for leaks etc.
Most every Honda shop has two types of oil Sevice and maintenance oils
Sevive oils are what the dealers first out in the engine to break them in or after engine modifications etc.and these are not synthetics ! they do have teflon additives.Depending on how long the engine has been run they may change this oil to a synthetic before it goes out to the show room.
Maintenace oils are added at regular sevice intervals ,and these are a synthetic (some shops use a synthetic blend). All the Honda oils are or were produced by Kendal.

You speak as if the folks in Detroit have a reputation for making vehicles that last for thousands of miles. The laws of physics state that perfectly round objects cannot be produced due to gravity. "Bedding" is the process by which these imperfections are worn away to a more perfect form.

Unlike GM or Ford, I will go with those who agree that something should last well beyond two years before it needs replacement.
