Default just an observation

Riding home from work there is a long uphill grade. In ESP my Rubicon will go 41 mph in 4th WOT and looses speed in 5th.

So one day I tried it in D1 and it maintained 41 mph just like it did in ESP 4th. So the next day I tried it in D2 and it maintained 41 mph.

I would have thought that one would perform better than the other.

I also just replaced my left real wheel bearing for the second time in 9800 miles, I think it was toast. LOL

D1 it stays in the peak HP band and in D2 it stays in the peak torque band, so I'm told.

I just thought it might climb the hill better in one mode more than another.

On newer Rubicons, they did away with the whole D1 D2 thing.

I didn't see it as doing much, IMHO, other than causing confusion about which to use.

I wasn't aware of that.

D1 feels "sportier" than D2 does. Cruising along the RPMs are lower in D2 than D1 so when driving on long roads I have always prefered D2 over D1 although 90%+ of the time I use ESP.

That does it - no more Honda's for me. LOL
And selectable 4-wd is a negative for me too. LOL again

Do the new fuel injected ATVs have a separate BARO sensor from the MAP sensor?

maybe a question for another thread.

I think D1 vs D2 changed the shift points/characteristics so once you hit top gear/top speed for the given terrain you shouldn't notice any difference. Towing a load, one will hold each gear longer vs the other which shifts faster to get up to speed quicker.

D1 the computer keeps the engine in the peak HP range that makes it feel "sportier" with better throttle response.

D2 the computer keeps the engine in the peak torque range. Honda claims that D2 is better for starting off on slippery surfaces because the engine "lugs" rather than spinning the tires. It feels like there is considerably less power in D2 than D1.

I can definitely tell the difference between the two but seldom use D2.

Last night headed home I did hit 43 mph climbing the same hill in D2 (fastest yet) but I did lean forward and duck down to cut wind resistance.

This thing is a rocket ship!! LOL
