Default TRX400EX Parking Brake Sticking

Hello all,

I have a 2006 with the rear cable operated parking brake. I can't get it adjusted right. I find that it is either too tight or too loose. I've been through the same pattern several times - adjust the bolt until it just grabs. Then release the brake and the rear wheels turn freely. Apply the brake again and release, and now it won't release. Loosen it a bit and now it doesn't bind when applied.

Is this just a cranky design, or do I have a sticking cable? Could the parking brake mechanism itself be sticking? It seems to be incredibly sensitive to adjust.

Anybody else have this problem? Thanks.

Doug

They are cranky and problematic. That's why a lot of people just remove it and install a parking brake block-off.

get rid of it.if you ride hard you will have to adjust it every time you ride to keep it working.

agreed....dump the brake unless you have to park on inclines all the time. Since the 400ex is relatively light, usually just shutting it off and leaving it in gear will work as a parking brake

I have an '01 and it gets adjusted about every oil change! Ya they suck but it shouldn't be too tricky to adjust but if you're having that much trouble, you're better of yankin it.
