atc 70 running poor
i just got a 82 honda atc 70 and it is running poorly. it starts up easy and idles well but when i rev it up with the choke off it cuts out.same when it is at operating temp. it runs good with the choke on but smokes and you can hear the butterfly on the choke flutter and its only so long that will last. the carb has been cleaned the needle in the throttle cylinder adjusted to the richest notch the valves ajusted has good spark. any ideas of what else to check or what else i can do? thanks

Your running lean for some reason.
Why? Could be many reasons.
Garbage in the jets. (If I had a dime for every person that gets on here and said they cleaned the carb real good and it still does not run good; then gets on here and says they cleaned it one more time and it fixed the problem, I would be a rich man)
Could be a torn carb boot.
Could be it's not jetted correctly for where you live.
Could be flow problems from the tank to the carb.
First thing I do is check compression. This will tell you whether the engine is worth finding out why it's running lean. Next check the valve lash and then go on to the things listed above.
